As the Water Rat said to the Mole already in 1908, "Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats …Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular."

From "The Wind in the Willows," by Kenneth Grahame.

Haarlem ahoy

Another day at sea for the disciplined canine corps.

Even among cows there are those who push the boundaries. This one just had to sample the sweetest grass right at the shore.

… an Windmühlen und schönen Hausbooten vorbei.

Windmills and houseboats: Dutch staples.

As we approached Haarlem we had a longish wait for this bridge to open. The two boats ahead of us danced with the wind and the current while they waited. We took advantage of a quick mooring instead. More relaxed, we find.

Endlich: Einfahrt nach Haarlem.

And off we go to Haarlem.

Moorings right in the heart of the old town, albeit without electricity….

We went a bit further, a few hundred meters, still on the River Spaarne and with shore power. We like hot water and a cold fridge. Here, Pippo and I share a quick debriefing after the tour. Pippo reported all was quiet on his end. Me, too.

Aila enjoys a post-cruise coffee as she looks at the river traffic.

This will be our view for the next several days.

Die Plan B gut vertäut an ihrem Liegeplatz.

Plan B, securely moored. Note the cable on the jetty. It runs from our boat to an unobtrusive box on shore, neatly hooking us up to the grid.
