Gouda ist eine Touristenattraktion, nicht nur wegen dem Käse. Auf dem Marktplatz findet an fast jedem Wochentag irgendein Markt statt - ein Käsemarkt, ein Gemüsemarkt, ein Flohmarkt oder einfach ein Allerlei-Ramsch-Markt. Das Stadthaus freistehend zu fotografieren, ist gar nicht so einfach.
Gouda’s a tourist destination today, and not only because of its famous cheese. It has lovely canals and many handsome buildings, like the Town Hall in this photo, which stands in the large Market Square.
Besonders gut gefällt es uns am historischen Hafen. Der befindet sich etwas abseits vom Zentrum und wird deshalb von vielen Touristen übersehen.
There’s a fine historical harbor just outside the town center. Well worth a visit.
Im historischen Hafen liegen die alten Frachtkähne, die einst mit dem berühmten Goudaer Käse an Bord in die Welt hinaus segelten. Sie sind bewohnt und liebevoll gepflegt.
These ships carried Gouda’s cheese around the world. Today, many are inhabited by devoted owners.
Es gibt eine eigene Werft mit Werkzeug und Maschinerie zur Instandhaltung der Kähne.

… und findet ein kleines Café, in dem biologische Köstlichkeiten und verschiedene Biere aus der Umgebung angeboten werden. Das Mehl für das hausgemachte Brot stammt natürlich aus dem Roten Löwen.
