Wir sind immer noch in Gouda. Das Städtchen ist nett, aber das ist nicht der eigentliche Grund: Auf der Plan B wird gearbeitet. Wir streichen die Fussböden frisch. Wir haben lange überlegt, was wir damit machen sollten. Der Teppich in der Kabine und das Linoleum in der Küche waren optisch und funktionell nicht befriedigend. Wir erwogen einen Riemenboden, Laminat, Parkett, befürchteten aber, dass sich darunter Feuchtigkeit sammeln würde. Und dann plötzlich hatten wir die Erleuchtung: warum nicht einfach die vorhandenen Fiberglass-Böden frisch streichen?
We are still in Gouda. Improving the interior is the reason. After considering various approaches, materials and techniques for the floors, we had a moment of true enlightenment. We have had linoleum in the kitchen and a carpet in the cabin. Classic boat materials, but aesthetically and functionally unsatisfying. We were considering wood planks, or laminated panels but we worried about the condensation they would incur and access to various floor hatches. Then, the lightbulb flickered on: We’re in a fiberglass boat, we’ve painted parts of it before, with pleasing results. Why not paint the freakin’ floor? We wanted white, and now we’re getting it!
Gouda ist für solche Arbeiten gut geeignet. Die Do-it-yourself-Supermärkte Praxis und Action sind mit dem Fahrrad in wenigen Minuten erreichbar. Ausserdem sind Strom und Wasser in den niedrigen Liegegebühren inbegriffen, was unserem angespannten Budget entgegenkommt.
Back to Gouda: it has the necessary shops (Praxis and Action). The mooring is inexpensive and electricity and water are included. So let’s get it done there, we reason, before we head toward Leiden.
Heute Nacht werden wir in der Küche schlafen, um die Farbe richtig trocknen zu lassen. Dies ist übrigens auch das Gästebett; eng, aber gemütlich.
Tonight we lowered the galley table and made it into a bed, as per the boat’s flexible design. Gotta let the paint dry. It promises to be a strange but no doubt cozy night…
