Was braucht man mehr.
This boat parked near us in Diemen. Our photos don't do it justice, in part because the pier blocks the view a bit. But we loved this one. Not too long. Maybe 13m, max. The dedicated steering room is comfy and commanding, and not very high (good for passing under bridges). The salon amidships is roomy. The sleeping cabin in the bow is all you need. And, unlike so many of these older craft -- we're guessing it's from the 1930s -- it has a really usable aft deck with easy access from the salon.
Then we had a funny thought: the Overijssel's layout is not unlike that of the typical French-built rentals, the Locaboats. They, however, are done up in refrigerator-white plastic, their hulls adorned with broad black bumper strips, giving them an ugly utilitarian look that masks just how sensible they are. On the Overijssel, we finally saw the design's virtues.
