Letzte Woche waren wir auf Andy's Boot Cleo zu einer Plauschfahrt nach Amsterdam eingeladen. Mit seinen britischen Gästen an Bord holte er uns auf der Plan B ab.
We hooked up with Andy and Cleo, friends from Sixhaven, and moored together on the Amstel just outside of the sweet little town of Ouderkerk. They had a couple of friends visiting from the UK and he was taking them on a tour into town.
A word about his boat: It's a 1920s Tjalk, the classic cargo carrier of the Dutch waterways. It's broad and low and capable of navigating in Holland's often shallow waters. In the middle of the boat you can see a blade. There's one on the other side too. These can be lowered where depths allow, making the boat much more maneuverable on lakes and seas. Inside, it's roomy and loft-like, with plenty of light thanks to skylights on the roof.

Wir genossen es, uns für einmal herumschippern zu lassen und einfach nur die Aussicht zu geniessen.
Our dogs came along too, making it three dogs onboard, with mascot Lulu not in this shot. Skylights and solar panels fill the roof.
Die Cleo ist eine Boll Tjalk, die ursprünglich zum Transport von Lasten gebaut wurde. Sie passt unter fast allen Amsterdamer Brücken durch. Hier nähern wir uns der Mageren Brug.
Cleo is considerably lower than Plan B and can pass under the bridges on the Amstel. We really enjoyed retracing our exit from Amsterdam, this time as spectators.
Roy konnte es dann aber doch nicht lassen, das Ruder selbst in die Hand zu nehmen.
Andy kindly let Roy take the helm for a while and he can report that a tiller is a great thing: steering with it is so direct and intuitive.
Nach ein paar beschaulichen Stunden ging es wieder nach Hause. Wir haben auf der Tour viele Fotos von Hausbooten gemacht, die hier nach und nach zu sehen sein werden.
After a couple of delightful hours we returned to our riverside mooring.
