Morning in Beernem, outside of Bruges.
Sometimes the canal narrows uncomfortably and apropos AIS we encountered two freighters of smallish size but capable of pulverizing Plan B who were transmitting no AIS signal. Nor, I noticed as we passed them, was any radar installation visible. They were no doubt local tubs who shift some materials a few kilometers now and then. So much for blind faith in tech.
We passed the house that the miraculous Suso found near Bruges when she and Dieter come next month. AirBnB with a mooring!
Flandria Harbor in Brugge has a lot to offer. It's close to the center, with all facilities. Another one of those places we're glad to visit early in the season.
Here's Aila chatting with the harbormaster's right hand. Earlier I had a conversation with a guy who turned out to be the president of the harbor association. He gave me a gem of information: when you leave Bruges traveling in the direction of Oostende, leave the harbor at 08:45 to be at the first of four bridges that have to move for our passage; then they will all open with a minimum of waiting. Nice to know! How silly if we'd left at the very normal 09:30 and had to wait three hours for the bridges.
Note the new lid. Aila gave it to me. It's nice. It's leather. I been wearing it exclusively these cool spring days and people seem to think I'm Belgian. A lot of guys where these here.
