Finally, the weather and Leo's availability coincided and we could start sailing! Hard to imagine a quieter place for beginners than the canal out of Oudenbosch.
Neira ist zu Beginn noch etwas angespannt. Wie man hört, empfinden Hunde ja die Stimmung ihrer Büchsenöffner ganz gut nach.
They say dogs read your mood. Neira was pretty tense her first time out, while we humans made a brave show of it, at least on the surface.
Mit der Zeit entspannt sie sich sichtlich - schliesslich fliegen ihr von überall her interessante Gerüche in die Nase.
She soon settled down and so did we. She savored the water-borne scents, we enjoyed the driving (or is it piloting, or sailing?). Whatever. It was great to get a feeling for all the variables---wind, current, motors, steering ---and we both did rather well for rank newbies.
Schliesslich geniesst sie ganz entspannt oben auf der Brücke das vorbeiziehende Panorama.
Neira was happiest up on the bridge with us. Good view and her people nearby.

I got in the groove too.
Lehrer Leo ist zufrieden.
Leo's a good teacher.
Landungssteg backbord voraus. Man muss ganz einfach das Boot längsseits bringen und dann auf den Steg driften lassen. Nach ein paar Mal üben - und mit Leos Ratschlägen - klappt das schon ganz gut.
Our practice landing along the Mark River. Slow is the watchword. Bringing the boat to a well-positioned near-stop just off the landing is the trick, then letting it drift gently up to the pier. Some approaches were better than others but all were pretty good for a couple of rookies.
