Chauny

Plan B im Hafen von Chauny, wo man international denkt; wir liegen direkt unter der amerikanischen Flagge.

Chauny, at one end of the Saint-Quentin Canal, is actually quite a well run harbor. We're glad we stopped here.
Das Städtchen wurde, wen wunderts, im Ersten Weltkrieg vollständig zerstört und danach im 'Châteaux'-Stil wieder aufgebaut.

The town was flattened in WWI, like so many others we've seen this year. The rebuild is not terribly inspiring but they tried.
Man pflegt hier einen sehr französischen Lebensstil. Es gibt einen grossen Platz, auf dem sich Jung und Alt zum Boulespiel trifft.

We've found the French, at least those in Picardie, to be friendly and laid back. This community boule field had at least three generations in play when we walked by.
Es gibt zahlreiche Bäckereien, in denen man verschiedene Sorten von Baguettes kaufen kann. Dieser Herr transportiert sein Frühstücksbrot auf der Lenkstange.

 Well beyond our expectations, we have two very good bakeries around the corner from the harbor. This gent aligned his baguette with his straight handlebars and off he went.
Am Dienstag und am Freitag findet im Marché Couvert der Markt statt.

The market hall, open for business on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Das Angebot ist sehr französisch.

Very French, with nose-to-tail offerings that expose my American upbringing, shall we say.
Ansonsten gibt es rund um Chauny vor allem Natur.

Along the towpath, autumn unfolds.
In diesen Tagen wird in der Umgebung gejagt, in Wald und Feld wird wild geschossen. Dieser Herr macht sich bereit.

It's huntin' season and I hope these cows are safe. I can tell you a few stories about cows mistaken for deer in upstate NY. 
Die Kühe bringen sich schon mal in Sicherheit, man kann ja nie wissen.
Die Bäume sind voller Misteln, Miraculix würde sich freuen.
Für einige Tage sind Laurence und Graham mit ihrer Bordkatze Nacho unsere Nachbaren. Graham hat die französischen Kanäle schon rauf und runter befahren und gibt wertvolle Tipps.

We had friendly, anglophonic neighbors for a few days. Here, I'm consulting with Graham, a Brit who's lived in France for years and knows the local waterways. They were on a lovely English boat. Graham said it was a typical Norfolk vessel. Not big, but roomy and graceful. Below, Laurence, Graham's wife, and Nacho, the cool cat onboard.
