A satisfying town, Gorkum, not just a touristy facade. We like it a lot.
Gorinchem bietet alles, was sich die Touristin in den Niederlanden wünscht. Hier ein Blick auf den historischen Hafen mit dazu gehörender Windmühle.
Tourists aren't likely to complain, as this photo makes clear. But the town is more than windmills and historical ships.

The Merwede, a branch of the Rhine as it heads to Rotterdam and the sea, forms the dynamic backdrop for Gorinchem. This busy artery lets you know there's a big world out there and it certainly provides direct and indirect employment for many residents.

This is the leash-free dog zone, on the edge of town, a ten-minute walk from our harbor. Our two dogsters ran wild there, jumped in the water and cavorted with the locals.

This was funny: one evening a guy was winched up to the top of his sailboat's mast, a couple of boats away from us. Not sure what he did, but he did it with good humor… and two heavily bandaged fingers!

Aila used a couple of hours and some scraps from her earlier decorative coup to transform the increasingly shabby back bench on deck into a thumb-in-your-eye color burst. Wow!
… und unterstützen die Tierwelt: dieses kleine Entlein ist verwaist und wird von uns gefüttert. Wir hoffen, dass es bis nächsten Montag, wenn wir Gorinchem verlassen, gross und stark ist, so dass es alleine überleben kann.
Another harbor tale: This duckling spends his days alone, between the pier and the shore. Lost? Abandoned? We're feeding him bread and hoping that when we move on next week he'll be fit enough to survive…. /: 0
