Tour de France: Rouen-Paris-Troyes

Wir müssen für ein paar Tage nach Zürich. Nach der altbewährten Methode überlassen wir dem Navi die Reiseplanung: Mit der Einstellung kürzeste Route, keine Autobahn, lassen wir uns überraschen, wohin uns der Weg führt.

For a quick trip to Zurich, we maintained our standard GPS setting, Shortest Route, never knowing where the most direct connecting of the dots might lead us....
Der direkteste Weg führt manchmal über abenteuerliche Strassen.

Often, we're out in the middle of nowhere, which suits us fine.
Das französische Land ist wunderschön, und Hund braucht auf einer langen Reise auch immer mal wieder einen kurzen Spaziergang; danach geht Neira in den Standby-Modus, siehe das Bild unten.

The countryside is lovely and a good dog needs the occasional walk in between long stretches on the road (see photo below).
Auf dem Weg von Rouen nach Zürich kommt man an Paris nicht vorbei. Da in der Ferne liegt es.

But, to our surprise, the Shortest Route between Rouen and Zurich leads ... right through the core of Paris!
Im Westen von Paris passieren wir Schloss Versailles ....

We entered greater Paris along the grand building of Versailles...
... danach gelangen wir durch das moderne Quartier La Défense mitten hinein in die Stadt.

... and then slipped into Tomorrowland in La Défense, home of the French high-rise...
Überquerung von La Seine.

... and then moved on to cross the Seine, personified by this commanding Amazon...
Weiter geht es über die Place Charles-de-Gaulle und um den Arc de Triomphe.

... and suddenly, we're in the heart of the city, on Place Charles-de-Gaulle, ringing the Arc de Triomphe in our little Juke!
Roy erklärt, was es an der Place de la Madeleine alles zu sehen und zu essen gibt.

Circling Place de la Madeleine, I waxed ecstatic about all the good things there are to eat around here.
Als nächstes bewundern wir den Obelisk von Luxor auf der Place de la Concorde.

Then we admired Place de la Concorde and the Obelisk of Luxor. 
Dann gehts an der Porte Saint-Denis vorbei ...

That takes us past the monumental Porte Saint-Denis...
... auf die Place de la Republique.

... and around the grand Place de la Republique.
Ich, aufgeregt.

Aila's feelin' it as we course through the city on a glorious pre-Spring Sunday. 
Schliesslich verlassen wir Paris im Osten über die Place de la Nation, bereit, die Marseillaise anzustimmen.

We exit central Paris via Place de la Nation ready to sing 'la Marseillaise'! 
Als Zugabe gibt es noch eine Besichtigung von Schloss Vincennes.

And bid the city adieu at massive Chateau de Vincennes. Wow, what a day trip!
Zurück auf der ruhigen Landstrasse fahren wir im Abendrot in Richtung Troyes, wo wir die Nacht zu verbringen gedenken.

We drove on into the golden evening, heading for Troyes, halfway to Zurich.

Ein glücklicher Tag endet mit einem glücklichen Nachtessen im Bistro Felix in Troyes. Roy müde, aber glücklich.

Our luck continued as we bumbled into Bistro Felix in Troyes. This was another simple and simply delicious, uncomplicated dinner, recalling our excellent meal in Liseux a couple of weeks ago. Is this a trend, young chefs taking the pretense out of French food but leaving in the pleasure and earthy tastiness? We hope so.
