Breaking good

Projekt Plan B ist in die 1. Phase getreten! Gestern wurden wir an die Mauer gezügelt, bereit zum Entfernen der alten Motoren.

We call it Project Plan B and it kicked off in earnest today with the removal of the old engines.
Dirks Bootsmechaniker Piet ist mit seinem Besteck bereit.

It looks like Piet couldn't make up his mind...
Dirk wollte die Motoren eigentlich im Wasser entfernen; doch nachdem der erste Motor sich gelöst hatte, glaubte Piet, dass Wasser eintrete. Wie sich später herausstellte, war dem nicht so; doch zur Sicherheit wurde die Plan B angeschnallt.

... but he performed splendidly, disconnecting the this from the that, etc., and in just a couple of hours and the old clunkers were extracted. I enjoyed watching and listening to Piet and Dirk, on the crane, communicate. They move boats and their bits around all day, all year. Dirk could pick up a dime with is crane and he and Piet are a smoothe-running team.

Of course, all sentient passersby had a look and offered a comment. Part of the fun. And a beautiful day helped the atmosphere.

Neira took up a strategic position on the hard, as we sea dogs say. 
Danach geht es daran, den Motorenraum zu putzen. Wir entfernen rund 4 Liter Antifrostmittel gemischt mit 40 Jahre lang angesammeltem Dreck. Wie man unten sehen kann, benutzt Roy sein Hinterteil zum Polieren.

Aila and I were tasked with cleaning up the engine room. Four liters of errant coolant from the clunkers plus forty years of accumulated grime. Cleaning it even 'clean-style' was rewarding. As you see below, I used the seat of pants for some careful buffing.
