As the Water Rat said to the Mole already in 1908, "Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats …Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular."

From "The Wind in the Willows," by Kenneth Grahame.

Instapix New York

No, I didn't drive Plan B over to NY, but I did take a look at the boating possibilties. Pretty choppy in late January, but stirring scenery.

We had a short packed week together, Stella and I.
Lower Manhattan is our turf.
I would have to call Stella's neighborhood the Lowest East Side.
A banished canine, while inside a barely house-trained human is allowed in. Not fair, perhaps, but Doughnut Planet's a little piece of heaven on earth anyway.
Stella had to visit Condé Nast, now ensconced in the new World Trade Center. I was happy to walk around and gawk.
Meanwhile, looking uptown....

Poor Mark.
Ai Weiwei's Arch in Washington Square, one of his city-wide installations on refugees (and fences).
Not the youngest boarder, he's got his crutches on hand, should he need them....
Her charges line up for the Penn Station pigeon lady.
Stella at the WTC Memorial, now part of the redeveloped site.
Downtown NYC is soaring.
