Bielefeld
Radio days


In den letzten Tagen war ich zur Binnen- und Küstenfunkerprüfung in Bielefeld. Letzte Vorbereitung am Abend davor.

Aila's hotel bed in Bielefeld the night before her VHF radio test. Hitting the books paid off. When the examiner asked the 29 guys and Aila if anyone was ready, she marched in and took the test first. And she nailed it. Way to go, Aila.
We're thrilled, not least because the licenses allow us to travel to some attractive places --- Hamburg and Berlin, for example --- and it's just good to know how to use the thing properly, and not just in emergencies.




Dies sind die Funkgeräte, an denen die praktische Prüfung abgelegt werden musste. Ich hatte genug Zeit daran zu üben, was sich an der Prüfung als vorteilhaft erwies...

The radio room was open for practice the day before the test so Aila got a chance to familiarize herself with these non-Apple, non-touchscreen, non-intuitive devices.


Der Aufenthalt war nicht nur anstrengend...

Of course, there were some pleasures to be had in Bielefeld too.


Nach der Prüfung noch etwas Sight Seeing. Über Bielefeld thront die Sparrenburg. Sie wurde im 2. WK zerbombt und danach sorgfältig wieder aufgebaut.

After the test, a bit of sightseeing. This castle was pulverized in WW2 so what we see today is a careful reconstruction on the ancient site.
