Drimmelen

Wir sind immer noch im riesigen Hafen Biesbosch in Drimmelen, mit Platz für 1400 Boote. Nicht der idyllischste Ort, und nicht der spannendste, aber wie Roy gerade so treffend bemerkte: Nach dem Rhein sind wir bereit für ein bisschen Langeweile!

We remain in the giant harbor Drimmelen -- 1400 berths. It offers little in the way of idyllic charm, nor the stimulation of a town or city setting. Just boats, lots of 'em. But we're ready for a bit of boredom after the Rhine. And Drimmelen is ideally situated for the last leg of our journey to Tholen. One overnight and we'll be there.

Um auf die andere Seite des Hafens zu kommen, benutzt man hier eine handbetriebene Fähre.

There's a little hand-cranked ferry to take you across the cut that connects the inner and outer harbors.

Drimmelen besteht hauptsächlich aus dem Hafen. Dort befindet auch der einzige Laden des Orts. Im Dorf selber wohnen weniger als 600 Menschen.

There is a small village behind the big riverside installations. Fewer than 600 inhabitants.

Für neugierige Touristen hat man einige Tafeln mit geschichtlichen Informationen aufgestellt.

Ein Mahnmal für die Wiederstandskämpfer des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Im Biesbosch versteckten sich damals Partisanen, die von den Bauern der Gegend ernährt wurden.

Im alten Hafen liegen vor allem 4-PS-Mietboote.

The old harbor across from the village is full of 4-hp rental boats.

Im neuen Hafen hingegen kann man einige interessante Entdeckungen machen. Drimmelen ist super gelegen. Man kann von hier aus den Nationalpark Biesbosch mit seinen vielen versteckten Anlegestellen erkunden. Die Nordsee ist nur eine Schleuse entfernt. Segelparadiese wir das Grevelinge- oder das Veerse Meer sind schnell erreichbar. Und auch Städte wie Willemstadt, Gouda oder Rotterdam liegen in nächster Nähe. Kein Wunder, dass in Drimmelen ein Haufen toller Schiffe zu finden sind.

But where we are, in the new harbor, there are all kinds of weird and wonderful craft to enjoy, like this hydrofoil. Just right for the shallow waters of the Biesbosch nature reserve, if you don't mind the insane noise levels it must put out. Drimmelen is extremely well located. All kinds of boating is half a day's trip away. Sailors can get to the North Sea, motorboaters are spoiled for choice, from the lagoons of the Biesbosch to the big towns of Dordrecht and Rotterdam or the tourist destinations of Gouda, Den Bosch and Gornichem, etc.  

Das ist ein Wajer-Beiboot. Beiboot, wohlgemerkt. Also ein Boot, das man zusätzlich zu seiner Jacht hat, um Einkäufe zu machen, zum Strand zu fahren, oder in einen Hafen einzulaufen der zu klein ist für die Superjacht. Das Dinghy ist mit seinen 38 Fuss etwas grösser als Plan B und mit seinen zwei 6-Zylinder 450-PS-Motoren gut 5 mal stärker motorisiert. Und dies ist nur eines von vielen Highlights im Hafen. Nachfolgend einige weitere Beispiele.

This is a Wajer tender. A tender is the boat you keep to take you from of your seriously big yacht at anchor in the bay and whisk you to the shops and restaurants in, say, Porto Cervo. This boat, a bit longer than Plan B, and has two Volvo Penta 6 cylinder engines pumping out over 450 hp each. I must say, I loved its lines and immaculate, low-key finish at first sight. It was only when I surfed the brand that I learned just how posh it is. And this was just one of the stars in the harbor. There were many others, and we show a few more below.
