Das ist er, Zürichs Hafenkran. Er steht an keinem Hafen und hebt auch keine Güter, sondern ist 'Kunst'. Er kostete die Stadt 600'000 Franken, plus eine unbekannte Summe, die Private beisteuerten - aber Kunst hat ja bekanntlich keinen Preis.
Well, there it is---Zurich's own harbor crane. It serves no harbor and lifts no goods but it doesn't have to fulfill such lowly functional expectations. It is, or is meant to be, a provocative work of art. And the city's share of its (unknown) total cost was six hundred thousand Swiss francs, with private donors also involved, so, please, a little respect.
Da ein Hafenkran an der Limmat keinerlei Sinn macht, wird er als pseudo-archäologische Forschung inszeniert: als Objekt einer maritimen Zürcher Vergangenheit, die in Vergessenheit geraten sei.

Ob man ihn nun mag oder nicht, beeindruckend ist er allemal. Der elegante Koloss lässt die Limmat zu einem kleinen Rinnsal schrumpfen - ein wohl eher unerwünschter Nebeneffekt.
Like it or not, brothers and sisters, there it stands, along the piddling River Limmat. Coming as we are from the Netherlands, where the harbors are real and much public art is humorous, we have to wonder who's the butt of this joke?
