Boats we love


Dies ist eine klassische Tjalk, ein typisch niederländischer Schiffstyp für untiefe Gewässer. Tjalken waren als Frachtschiffe vom 17. bis ins frühe 20. Jahrhundert unterwegs.

This is a classic Tjalk, the flat-bottomed sailboats that plied the shallow waters of Holland's deltas a hundred years ago. This one's being lovingly restored in our harbor in Gorkum. It's not unique but it's a fine representative of its breed.














Tjalken haben einen langen, schmalen Körper und einen flachen Boden, mit dem sie bei Ebbe trockenfallen können, nämlich auf dem Wattboden aufsetzen. Dank dem vielen Platz, den sie bieten, sind sie heute beliebte Hausboote.


They were the barges of their day. Now they are often treasured houseboats.















Diese Tjalk aus dem Jahr 1896 liegt im Hafen von Gorinchem und wird dort in liebevoller Handarbeit von ihrem Besitzer restauriert.


People are working on this boat nearly every day, over a hundred years after it was launched.
