berichtet, meldete unser Motor auf dem Weg nach Dole einen geheimnisvollen Fehler betreffend einem gewissen Power Relay, einem von (wie wir jetzt wissen) vier elektrischen Schaltern, die unseren High-tech-Motor kontrollieren. Wir setzten uns daraufhin mit Blanquart Yachting in Verbindung, dem regionalen Vertreter von Volvo Penta, und am Freitag kamen Monsieur Blanquart und sein Assistent von Saint-Jean-de-Losne nach Dole. Mit im Gepäck hatten sie ein Set neuer Relays, ihren Computer und ein Programm namens Vodia, das in der Lage ist, den Status der Relays zu analysieren.
We mentioned on our way to Dole we had a cryptic message on the engine display about one of the relays, the four electrical switches that control our high-tech motor. We contacted Blanquart Yachting, authorized Volvo Penta reps in St-Jean-de-Losne, and Monsieur Blanquart and a young mechanic came onboard to take a look, which meant hooking up Volvo Penta's proprietary Vodia engine analysis black box to a computer and then calling VP France to discuss the readout with a techie in the home office. Looking under the hood, like all else, ain't what it used to be.
Es gibt im Motor also vier Relays, etwa eiswürfelgrossen Dinger, die wie Hühner auf der Stange hübsch aufgereiht in einer Reihe sitzen. Der Pfeil weist auf eines von ihnen. Das Analyseprogramm zeigte kein unmittelbares Versagen; vielleicht war die Warnung nur auf ein einmaliges Absacken des Stroms beim Starten des Motors zurückzuführen. Sicherheitshalber tauschte der Mechaniker aber trotzdem das Power Relay gegen ein Neues aus. Wir haben zudem ein weiteres gekauft, als Reserve.
The arrow points to one of the relays, about the size of big ice cube. The Vodia anaysis showed a potential problem but nothing was emphatic. Was the warning a one-timer, a ghost? Having ordered, and received, replacement relays, we replaced the questionable one and bought another, just to have on hand.
Die gute Nachricht: das Ereignis kam zwei Tage vor dem Ablaufen unserer Volvo-Penta-Garantie, die Rechung geht also an den Hersteller. Und noch ein Tipp - wer in der Umgebung von Saint-Jean-de-Losne ein Problem mit seinem Boot und/oder Motor hat, der gehe zu Blanquart. Wir hatten schon letztes Jahr positive Meldungen zu dieser Werft gehört, und können diese nur bestätigen.
Two remarks: This small but potentially crippling incident occurred two days before our two-year guarantee expired, so the bill goes to Volvo Penta. And, two, if you're ever in boating trouble in the area of St-Jean-de-Losne, call Blanquart. We'd heard good things about them last year from an American couple we met on the Canal du Loing and our experience confirmed their positive report.
