Leos Boot ist die Calypso, eine norwegische Skilsø. Gestern hat er sie bereit gemacht für den Winter, und Roy hat mit Hand angelegt. Da hat er von Leo wieder einmal einiges gelernt. Die Calypso ist in Grösse und Bauart der Plan B ganz ähnlich, so dass dieses Wissen uns in der Zukunft nützlich sein kann.
Leo's leaving Calypso in the water this winter. He let us watch as he winterized his boat the other day. Calypso's a reasonable proxy for Plan B in terms of size and layout so it was useful to observe this process.
Beim Winterfertig-Machen geht es im Wesentlichen darum, das in den Leitungen vorhandene Wasser durch Frostschutzmittel zu ersetzen. Roy hat ein kleines Handbuch gemacht; hier folgt ein kleiner Ausschnitt daraus.
Basically, the idea is to flush the water from the engines and the domestic lines --- sinks, toilet, shower --- and replace it with antifreeze. We made a little illustrated guide for future reference and include some of those images here:

Preparing the engines was straightforward enough. The toilet was next, and here the idea is to get the antifreeze into the hand pump and the lines up- and downstream.

Winterizing the drinking water system from source to sinks was a bit difficult because access to the freshwater tank was tight.

Leo's a practiced hand and he knows Calypso inside and out, so we even had a moment to note the arrival of Santa and his sooty helpers.
