As the Water Rat said to the Mole already in 1908, "Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats …Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular."
From "The Wind in the Willows," by Kenneth Grahame.

Instapix Paris
Port de l'Arsenal, Plan B's harbor in Paris, couldn't be better located. Delights can be found in every direction.
Some high water markers at the end of the harbor where a canal lock connects to the Seine.

For brother Bob, a big fan of Gustav's.
Diese Pixelgesichter findet man überall in Paris.
These Pacman-meets-Lego graphics are everywhere.
There's always somebody who has to be different!
Erwischt!
Caught in the act, again. My bakery survey continues to expand, as does my waistline. This one, in the Marais, was actually pretty disappointing, despite its grand decor. I bought a couple of sticky, damp Rugelach and can report I had better ones in New York in February. Oh well, the search goes on!

Neira's shy charm is magnetic.

Neira beim Bauchbad mit Blick auf Notre Dame.
Aila has a nose for finding these things: the only ramp down to the Seine offers Neira a cooling bath, with a view of Notre Dame, when temperatures soar.
We noticed an unusual number of ants crawling around the boat and an inspection found the source: a damp and cosy nest in the anchor hatch.
We tossed out those ant-encrusted boards, hosed down the hatch, splashed in some cleaning vinegar and the problem appears to be solved.
The weather's been very warm and while we were relaxing on the rear deck, we peered into the water and saw some mighty big fish. A lot of them.

Antiquity lives – G like Gaia
Big name for a big boat --- the ancient Greeks' primordial mother of all life. She bore the Titans, themselves the parents of the Olympian gods. Big enough? I first "met" Gaia in the Maximus poems of Charles Olson, literal and figurative giant of 20th American poetry, rector of Black Mountain College (where he succeeded Josef Albers), omnivorous polymath and, during the war years, Office of War Information advocate for "a benign, humane America." How his big voice would thunder were he alive today!

Paris!
We got an early start, 7:15, because Jean-Marie said 1) avoid weekends due to heavy traffic (we didn't) and 2) get through town before 10am because the tour boats are murder (which we did).
La Defense is billed as "the biggest business center in Europe" in terms of square meters. We're all glad they gathered the statement high-rises in a pen, well away from the beautiful heart of Paris.
Aila's all concentration as she manages our tie-up in the lock.
La Seine Musicale, a futuristic complex outside of Paris. Aila thought it was an Apple center.
The Eiffel Tower, a mini Lady Liberty, a bird in flight and Plan B's French guest flag: What a view! Also note the two speedboats just to the right of the statue.
Sunday morning. Not a lot of commercial traffic underway, thank goodness. And we got into town just before the flotilla of tour boats started their day. However, we did have to deal with the rough wakes of the fire department's high-speed runabouts. The guys were putting on quite a show. The definitely rocked our world. How heavy were the waves? Knocked over Neira's water bowl, which never happened before!
Die meisten Pariser Brücken stammen aus dem 19. Jahrhundert.
Most of Paris's bridges are from the 19th century, when they knew how to appeal to our higher ideals.
Paris!
Both hands busy or I'd be pinching myself. In Paris! On Plan B! Will wonders never cease?!
In a broad and busy section of the river, this well marked entrance shows the way to our harbor through a canal lock to Port de Plaisance d'Arsenal.
And here we are, tucked in with a bunch of other boats in this well-run marina near the Bastille, the Marais, the Louvre, etc. A highpoint of our time on the water, to be sure.
