The first step in Project Plan B: The Repowering is to check the stern drives. When they're set that determines the final positions of the engines, so it's a key step. I had found a specialist on Holland's national eBay proxy, Marktplaats, and Dirk, after a phone call with the guy, thought it was worth visiting his workshop, an unmarked garage in a village outside Rotterdam. Totally stealth and totally stocked.
Gestern sind Roy und Dirk nach Stellendam gefahren, wo Roy einen Spezialisten für Volvo Penta-Antriebe ausfindig gemacht hat. Der Mann beschäftigt sich ausschliesslich mit Volvo Penta, und ausschliesslich mit Antrieben - keine anderen Marken, keine anderen Teile!
The guy only works on Volvo Penta stern drives, no other brands, no other parts. He quickly did a couple of tests --- checking the oil for signs of water (there were none) and the propeller shaft's alignment (a bit wobbly), plus the state of the aluminum housings (corroded).

Rebuilding the old drives is not an option. The housings are too far gone. But replacements, as you see, are on hand. I won't go into even more boring detail, but the trip settled some questions and opened a couple of new ones that are next on the agenda.
