No rendez-vouz in Chauny

Als Roy gestern Morgen mit Neira einen Morgenspaziergang macht, erspäht er am anderen Ufer, keine hundert Meter von unserem Liegeplatz im Hafen von Chauny, die ExCaltex: das Boot von Mia und Pim, die wir im April in Tholen kennengelernt hatten. Damals waren sie ganz am Anfang ihrer Reise von Rotterdam ans Mittelmeer, und nun schon fast wieder zu Hause. Wir haben ihre Fahrt über ihren Blog hautnah miterlebt, und dabei wertvolle Tipps erhalten.
Leider hat es diesmal mit einem Treffen nicht geklappt. Als Mia und Pim in Chauny ankommen, sind wir gerade in Compiègne. Hier liegt die ExCaltex neben der Jeanette, der 35 Meter langen Luxe Motor von ihren Freunden Katheline und Henk. Auch sie haben einen Blog, hier zu finden.

We were getting ready for a quick run to Switzerland. Rental car packed and ready. Boat tucked in for a week without us. But one part of the daily routine could not be skipped. Neira needed her morning walk, especially because she would be spending the day in the back of the car. As we headed down the tow path, I looked over and tied up to a big Dutch barge was Pim and Mia's ExCaltex, a name that rang a big bell. Back in April, in Tholen, we met them on their third day out of Rotterdam, right at the beginning of their six-month tour of France. We liked their easy manner and we exchanged blog addresses. We've been following each other ever since. Their blog is full of great images and impressions.

Am nächsten Morgen – wir sind schon unterwegs in die Schweiz, wo wir am Wochenende Hanspeters 3x20. Geburtstag feiern werden – parkieren Mia und Pim ihre ExCaltex neben Plan B. Das Foto haben wir von ihrem Blog gestohlen, vielen Dank dafür... Wir hoffen, euch irgendwann doch wieder zu treffen.
Zum Boot: Die ExCaltex wurde 1950 im Auftrag der Ölraffinerie-Firma Caltex bei Fries Lentsch in Alphen am Rhein gebaut; Länge 9 Meter, Breite 2.35 Meter. Mia und Pim haben das Boot vor etlichen Jahren gekauft und auf den Namen ExCaltex getauft.

We had a tight schedule and couldn't hang around to visit with them, which was a pity, but they pulled in next to Plan B to fill their water tank and took this picture. They covered a lot of territory on their tour, much of it we will retrace one day. Oh, the boat's name comes from its origins. It's a jewel built by Fries Lentsch --- a revered Dutch boat yard --- in 1950 for the Caltex oil company to transport passengers around the port of Rotterdam. Now it's ExCaltex. Pim and Mia are heading back to Rotterdam, back to life onshore, but they had a great trip and we enjoyed it with them!
